Birth Certificate
A birth certificate is an official record of when and where you were born. You need it to enrol in school, get a passport, open a bank account, and register to vote. It is one of the most important identity documents you will ever need.
- Parents registering a newborn's birth (must be done within 21 days) - Adults who were never issued a birth certificate and need one now - Anyone applying for a passport, school admission, or marriage registration - Families updating records after an error in the original certificate
1. If registering a newborn: the hospital where the child was born usually submits the data directly to the local municipal body. Confirm with the hospital. 2. For a new application or correction, visit the MeeSeva portal or your local Municipal Office / Gram Panchayat. 3. Fill in the birth registration form with the child's name, date of birth, hospital, and parents' details. 4. Upload supporting documents: hospital discharge summary, parents' Aadhaar, and marriage certificate (if applicable). 5. Pay the applicable fee online or at the counter. 6. Collect or download the certificate once issued (7–15 working days for a new application).
