RTI Application – Right to Information
The Right to Information Act (2005) gives every citizen the legal right to ask any government department for information about its decisions, records, or actions. In Telangana, you can file an RTI application online or on paper at the concerned department.
- Citizens who want to know the status of a government file or application stuck in bureaucracy - People who want to check how public funds are being spent in their area - Journalists or activists researching government schemes or contracts - Anyone who was denied a service and wants to know the reason through official records
1. Identify the public authority (department or office) that holds the information you need. 2. Visit the RTI Online Portal (rtionline.gov.in) for central departments or the Telangana state RTI portal for state departments. 3. Select the ministry or department and click **Submit RTI Request**. 4. Write your application in simple language: clearly state what specific information you want. Do not ask for opinions — only documents or records. 5. Pay the RTI fee (₹10 for central; state fees vary) online or by demand draft. 6. Submit and note your Registration Number. 7. The public authority must respond within 30 days (or 48 hours for life/liberty matters). If unsatisfied, you can file a First Appeal.
